Spend four days in a theatre’s Creative Engagement department, exploring how Youth Theatre, school programmes and community projects run. Dive into marketing, programming and finance, take a backstage tour, build customer service skills with the Welcome Team, and visit Costume Hire at Osbaldwick.
York Theatre Royal is offering a four-day work experience opportunity for young people in Year 10. Participants will be based in the theatre’s Creative Engagement department, which supports Youth Theatre, school programmes and community projects, and will get a broad introduction to the different kinds of work that happen behind the scenes in a busy theatre.
During the week, young people may take part in department deep dives with staff, including learning about marketing and social media campaigns, programming decisions and finance. They may also join a backstage tour, spend time with the Welcome Team to develop customer service skills, and visit the Costume Hire at Osbaldwick to see another part of the organisation’s work.
The programme is designed to give a varied experience of theatre life, with a schedule that changes from day to day. Participants will work for around five hours each day, with a one-hour break, and will be selected through an application process followed by interview.
Alternative application formats are available, and the theatre welcomes applicants who may need access adjustments.
