Help visitors explore Spurn’s three-mile peninsula by sharing information, pointing out designated paths and dog-friendly routes, and keeping an eye out for wildlife disturbance or damage. You’ll spend shifts outdoors, with full training provided; UTV buggy duties may include beach litter collection.

Volunteer Rangers at Spurn support Yorkshire Wildlife Trust by helping visitors make the most of one of its most iconic nature reserves. The role is based at Spurn National Nature Reserve, a three-mile peninsula with rich wildlife, a strong sense of place and a busy visitor flow.

Volunteers spend time outdoors, meet members of the public and help create a welcoming, safe experience for people exploring the reserve.

Typical duties include talking to visitors, answering questions, providing information about the reserve, and advising people on areas that are off limits or on designated paths and dog-friendly routes. Volunteers also carry out visual checks during shifts and report concerns such as disturbance to wildlife, damage to infrastructure or nesting bird activity to site staff.

If working in a UTV buggy, they may also collect litter from beach cleans and return it to the Discovery Centre.

Full training and induction are provided, so enthusiasm and a willingness to engage with visitors are the main qualities needed. The role suits people who enjoy being outdoors, sharing knowledge and helping protect a sensitive coastal landscape while making each visitor’s trip memorable.
