Support marine restoration at Spurn Point through hands-on fieldwork for native oysters and seagrass. Collect and care for seagrass seeds, survey habitats, monitor oysters and help move young oysters to restoration areas.
Yorkshire Wildlife Trust’s Wilder Humber Volunteer opportunity invites people who care about the natural world to support marine conservation and habitat restoration on the Humber estuary. Volunteers help the restoration team with work linked to native oyster recovery and seagrass meadow restoration at Spurn Point, contributing to a wider programme focused on improving marine habitats and biodiversity in East Yorkshire.
The role is practical and outdoors-based, with tasks that vary depending on what the restoration team needs. Activities may include collecting and caring for seagrass seeds, planting seagrass, surveying habitats, monitoring and tagging oysters, moving spat on shell to restoration areas, and oyster husbandry.
The volunteer base is Spurn Point NNR Field Station, and the work is described as weekday-based fieldwork that can involve soft ground, changeable weather and heavy equipment. Volunteers can book onto task days via Eventbrite or contact the Wilder Humber team with questions.
