Apply NowEver wondered what life as a doctor is really like? Join Dukes Plus' Young Doctor Summer Experience at UCL to shadow clinicians, run simulations, practise CPR and suturing, and build uni-ready skills for medicine and healthcare careers.
The Young Doctor Summer Experience is an immersive summer school based at University College London and the wider University of London campus that gives students hands-on insight into medicine. Across practical simulations, ward rounds, specialist consultations and emergency scenarios you will shadow medical professionals, practise clinical procedures (CPR, basic suturing, blood taking on prosthetic arms), and work through diagnostics including X-rays and blood test interpretation.
The programme includes medical school admissions coaching: UCAS personal statement guidance, UCAT preparation, and practice with Multiple Mini Interview (MMI) stations. Participants receive mentorship from practising doctors across multiple specialisms, engage in VR and simulated clinical environments, and complete assessments that lead to a Level 3 Award in Work Experience and Career Planning (8 UCAS points) plus an industry reference letter.
Choose a First Week (taster), Two-Week Experience, or Two-Week Premium option (additional professional hours and masterclasses). Accommodation (single en-suite rooms) and optional airport transfers are offered for residential students.
The programme aims to strengthen applications to medical school and help students decide whether a medical career is right for them.
