Join a Discord community where you can team up around economics, finance or politics, propose your own research idea and build independent research skills. Completed projects are reviewed by students, published on the site and can enter a quarterly vote for best project.

Youth Economic Review is a volunteer-led research group for young people aged 15 to 18 who are interested in economics, finance or politics. It is designed for students who want to write about topics that matter to them, develop independent research skills, and build something tangible for university applications.

If accepted, volunteers are invited into a Discord community where they can join a team, propose their own research idea, or wait for others with similar interests to form a group. Once a project is completed, it is reviewed by other students, published on the site, and can be entered into a quarterly vote for best research project.

Those who prefer not to write can still join the Discord to talk with like-minded people. The experience can also count towards Saltire Awards and DofE.

Youth Economic Review is run by a 16-year-old volunteer student in Aberdeen, not by a school or a company. All discussion takes place on Discord, and the organiser says they cannot check every message. Applicants under 18 are asked to tell a parent or guardian before applying.
