The UK Youth Summer Jobs Programme offers young people aged 16-20 who are at risk of violence a six-week paid work placement designed to build employability skills, self-confidence and improve wellbeing and mental health. Each participant is supported throughout the placement by a dedicated youth worker who helps with on-the-job support and personal development.
The programme works with employers across England and Wales to place young people in real workplaces over the summer. Since 2024 over 800 young people have taken part and the programme reports positive employer and participant feedback, including examples of participants moving into permanent roles with placement providers.
Planning is underway for the 2026 programme, which aims to support around 900 young people and expand into further locations. The programme partners with local delivery organisations and employers to deliver placements and on-site support.
